After walking by Geláre a few times at AMK Hub, I finally decided to give it a try. Previously, when I first noticed the store, I made a mental note that if I were ever going to visit Geláre, it would be on a Tuesday. That’s because every Tuesday, they have a promotion on their waffles.
Apparently, Geláre is a food chain from Australia. Geláre was first formed in 1987, with the opening of its original store in Fremantle, Western Australia.
The shop is located just beside Popeyes at AMK Hub. It’s hard to miss it with their brightly lit and eye catching decorations. To order, you’d need to head to the counter, place your order and pay upfront, like 49 Seats. But unlike 49 Seats, Geláre still charges you 10% service charge.
How this pasta was plated kinda reminded me of the pasta I had at XW Western Grill at Raffles City Shopping Center, just that not as nice.
It’s somewhat hard to find good pasta in Singapore!
Surprisingly, I enjoyed their Beef & Spinach Lasagna.
Though it tasted like those cheap frozen lasagna available at the supermarket, but because I’ve not had one for a long time, I enjoyed the dish.
For waffles, I tried their Banana Biscoff Waffle. Their waffles are freshly baked Belgian waffles.
I’m sad to report that Geláre’s waffle was just so-so. The texture and taste of the waffle for the price was kind of a let down. It was not fragrant as compared to the likes of Fatbaby. It was the condiments on top that saved the waffle.
Overall, the meal cost $47.30 for two, including dessert. It’s on the pricier side given the rather small portions.
It’s a good thing that they have their on-going Tuesday promotion to attract new customers. Otherwise, people like me wouldn’t have even bothered trying the place out in the first place.
Would I come back again though? With the portions being on the smaller side and the waffles a huge letdown – highly unlikely.
