Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 – SoftWeave Plus Fabric Review

Table of Contents

Meet the Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022! It is said that Secretlab chairs are the benchmark by which we judge all other gaming chairs. Apparently most aren’t up to the challenge and will leave you with a sore back and poor night’s sleep, ain’t it?

Did you know?
Secretlab is a Singaporean furniture company established by former e-sports gamers, Ian Ang and Alaric Choo in 2014.

My mom has been contemplating to get a good chair for quite some time now, after suffering backaches from sitting too long from her online lessons. Hence, after much research, we were torn between local brand TTRacing’s Maxx Gaming Chair and Secretlab’s TITAN Evo 2022. In the end, we chose the latter.

Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 - Chair Back

I decided to get the SoftWeaveTM Plus Fabric instead of the NEOTM Hybrid Leatherette or NAPA Leather because generally, leather gets hot real quick. With Malaysia, being no stranger to hot weather all year round, I thought it would be a bad idea to get the leather version.

Why I Like Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022?

Comfort

If I have to choose one thing that the Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 excels best at, it’s definitely comfort. It’s something that the chair is adept at delivering. Here’s why.

Different sizes for everyone!

First thing I like Secretlab is their approach. They have not taken the approach of one size fits all. Rather, they have three sizes available for their Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 chair – Small, Regular and Extra Large. That means you’ll no longer need to look for a different model of chair to find the right fit. It’s like Apple offering the 4 different versions of the iPhone 13 – iPhone 13 Mini (5.4 inch), iPhone 13 (6.1 inch), iPhone 13 Pro (6.1 inch), and iPhone 13 Pro Max (6.7 inch), that suits different people with different needs.

In that sense, the Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 chair should cover most bases.

Easy to assemble

Putting together a chair is often a major nuisance. It was surprisingly easy to fix the Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 chair together. Secretlab has gone all out on with magnets – the armrests, panels and memory form pillow all use magnets.

The chair arrived in a big box and was well-padded with lots of styrofoam to keep the chair safe during transit. Secretlab also included a big glossy assembly guide, which provides the instructions to make the assembling process easy. In the box, Secretlab included everything you need to assemble your chair, including a tool kit containing a handy screwdriver tool with a swappable tip for the two kinds of fasteners required for the assembly, together with a hex key for extra leverage.

The chair has metal plates containing the screw holes that attach to the hinges on the chair’s bottom. This is a nice design, as you don’t need to dig the bolt in and wiggle it around until it properly catches.

The chair’s right side features a metal hinge bracket that makes it easy to align the holes and screw in the bolts. The plastic covers all have magnets that magnetically attach to the chair. This eliminates the need of tiny screws to keep the hinges looking neat and tidy.

The armrests and covers for the hinges are also magnetic. It’s easy to install, and easy to replace should something goes wrong with it. The armrests are also movable. You can shift it forwards, backwards, to the side, up, and down. It is highly user-customisable and it should fit most desks. The action of movement also feels premium.

The entire assembly process took about 20 minutes. You can actually fix the chair yourself, though it’ll be much easier if you have help.

Good range of adjustability

This is probably the most important feature of the Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 chair – adjustability. It boasts an adjustable lumbar support that helps you to keep a healthy sitting posture. Having ways to adjust a chair means you can have it to conform to your body shape and type, helping you sit more comfortably and ergonomically.

How does it work? It works by having an adjustable mechanism to extend and retract an internal support. Dials on the left and right of the chair allows you to adjust the height and curvature of the lumbar support to fit your spine. The lumbar support is adjustable in four directions, up, down, in, and out. Since you can tweak while you’re on the chair, it makes it exceptionally easy to get it just right to your needs.

The levers beneath your chair seat allows you to adjust the height and apply a tilt lock. There’s also a recline lever on the right.

Paired with a head support or pillow, you’ve got yourself a comfortable and supportive combination.

Excellent build quality

The mechanical parts of the chair also feels sturdy and premium. The hydraulics maintain a smooth action all the way down, and the recline goes up and down without any fuss.

Overall, I’d say the Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 has good fabric upholstery masterwork.

Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 Chair

What I wished Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 did better?

Neck pillow adjustable area is limited

The Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 comes with a head cushion that is magnetic. Whilst it’s a clever idea to use magnets over straps, the area that the head cushion sticks to is rather small. It’s relatively easy to nudge the pillow out of position.

Recline can be jerky

Though the Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 chair can recline quite low till the extent you can take a nap on it comfortably, sometimes as you lean back as you pull the lever, it can stick and then ratchet suddenly in an unpleasant way. Probably either I haven’t fully figured out how to adjust the chair, or a few tweaks are in order to prevent this from happening.

Pricey

It’s no secret that Secretlab chairs costs a bomb. The biggest drawback in getting the chair is definitely it’s hefty price tag. Pricing for the Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 starts at SGD 579, and can go up all the way to SGD 1,329.

Verdict – Recommended!

The Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 is a comfortable chair. It’s designed to be aesthetically pleasing to the eyes as well. The material used and design are top notch. Every part of the chair is sturdy and well-made. If you spend all day at the desk and want to sit in style without paying the price later, this is probably the chair that you should look for. In this case, what you pay is really what you get.

Even the toolkit is aesthetic

They also have a quirky unique way of extending your warranty. By default, Secretlab gives you 3 years warranty for your chair. You can either extend it to 5 years for SGD$50, or get that with a social media post of your chair. Smart move on Secretlab’s part for free publicity.
