Loki on Disney+ Hotstar

I’m a big fan of Marvel Cinematic Universe (“MCU”). The God of Mischief is back! Loki just premiered on Disney+ Hotstar. This time, Loki is stepping out of his brother’s shadow to embark on an adventure that takes place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame”.

Loki – The God of Mischief

I’ve always said that Loki deserved his own show. While Loki has been always more of a supporting role in the MCU movie series, this is his first change at a starring role. Tom Hiddleston has masterfully portrayed Loki throughout the various MCU movies – his intellect, motivations, character development.

The Premise

This TV series revolves around Loki breaking and subsequently fixing the flow of time. If you’re an avid MCU fan and know most of its erudition, the premise of this series begins when Loki escapes with the Tesseract (Space Stone) back in 2012, the attach of the Chitauri. This took place in “The Avengers” movie in 2012. Loki was supposed to return to Asgard with his brother Thor for his crimes. But due to the Avengers travelling back in time from a future timeline (Avengers: Endgame) to “borrow” the infinity stones to bring everyone back, they screwed up and Loki escaped. And that’s where this series begins.

Loki escapes, and he is now accused of being a “variant” that has disrupted the timeline. He almost instantly gets captured by an organisation called the Time Variance Authority (“TVA”). He’s given a choice – to be destroyed or partner with TVA agent Mobius (played by Owen Wilson) to help track down another fugitive variant who has been killing agents across various time periods.

Like Men in Black, the TVA is the kind of organisation that is unknown to almost everyone. It’s objective – to maintain a timeline created by the three beings known as the Time Keepers. Any anomalies that create new potentially dangerous time streams are eradicated before it manifests. This time stream discussion has been brought up before – when the Hulk borrowed the Time Stone from the Ancient One in the Avengers: Endgame.

Verdict of the First Episode – It’s a blast!

Fasten your seatbelts, it’s gonna be one hell of a ride! Knowing Loki’s behaviour, I expect a lot more of notorious and mischievous activities throughout the series, because that’s what Loki is – The God of Mischief. There’s going to be mayhem, mischief, chaos and ends of multiverse worlds! But it’s going to be epic! I can’t wait to see what’s in store in the rest of the upcoming episodes of Loki.

I thoroughly enjoyed how the series has taken on the concept of time – time management, alternate timelines, time travel and time looping. It’s a lot to take in. Time has always been a fascinating subject, and can get complicated real fast. But, the series has somehow managed to make the audience understand simply, or rather Miss Minutes did.

I also thought that the demonstration of the TVA’s power by showing the infinity stones as paperweights was a masterstroke. It helped open Loki’s mind that what he’d been craving all along was futile.

This TV series is only available on Disney+ Hotstar in Malaysia, and new episodes drop every Wednesday. We certainly have been burdened with his glorious purpose. Next Wednesday couldn’t come quicker enough.
