Mama Mee 夜宵食堂 @ Kepong Baru, Kuala Lumpur

Mama Mee 夜宵食堂 has brought one of Bangkok’s famous late night supper dishes – Tomyum Mama, here in Kuala Lumpur! There’s nothing more sinfully delicious than a steaming hot bowl of instant noodle in thick and creamy tom yum soup, with a generous serving of seafood and meatballs. If you’re a fan of Bangkok’s Jeh O Chula Tom Yum Mama, this is a spot you do not want to miss out on!

Mama Mee 夜宵食堂 is a small roadside store. Parking can be rather hard to find, given that the store is right by a rather main road. You can park directly opposite the store or down the road.

The store is always packed with people, usually with a beeline of people queuing for a table. I chose to reach 10 minutes before they opened, which paid off, because 20 minutes later, there was a long queue outside the store waiting for a table. One reason why there is always a queue is because there are limited tables (only 10 if I’m not mistaken) available in the store itself.

Their signature is Mama Creamy Tomyam Deluxe (1 pax) (RM14.80), or if you’ve feeling luxurious, you can opt for their Dragon Creamy Mama Mee (RM24.80). Other than their Mama Tomyam series, they do offer some other pasta dishes. I tried their Mama Creamy Tomyam Deluxe (2 pax) (RM24.80) and their Fried Thai Smoked Duck Noodle (RM13.80).

The Mama Creamy Tomyam Deluxe soup was slightly sweet and sour, and wasn’t really spicy. It’s served with pork balls, prawns and cuttlefish, topped with raw egg yolk. Apparently the raw egg yolk is supposed to make the soup more creamy, and tone down the overall spiciness of the soup (though I personally feel no difference). The meatball served together with the noodles were good! They don’t seem to be store bought, and the seafood was pretty fresh.

The smoked duck from the Fried Thai Smoked Duck Noodle was awesome! The instant noodles itself is pretty much tasteless, given that the smoked duck is pretty salty on its own.

I would say this is pretty reasonably priced, given that it’s instant noodles with generous sides. But I’d probably won’t be back for more given the location and long queues, unless I really crave for Mama Mee instant noodles in Tom Yum soup.
