[Closed] Emack & Bolio’s @ Jewel, Singapore

Update: Emack & Bolio’s has since closed down. It’s sad to see them go. I really miss their cones.

After the awesome burger at Shake Shack, I headed off to try another must-try ice-cream! Emack & Bolio’s! It took me quite awhile to find the outlet (opposite Irvins Salted Egg), since it’s located not where the main chains are.

Hailing from Boston, USA, Emack & Bolio’s was started in 1975 and has opened an outlet in the new Jewel Changi Airport. Surprisingly enough, there isn’t an outlet in Kuala Lumpur. Oddly enough, they do have at outlet in KSL City Mall, Johor Bahru though.

Fun fact, you might also know this brand of ice-cream if you have watched a Korean drama series called A Korean Odyssey, where lead characters Son Oh-gong and Samjang (acted by Lee Seung-gi and Oh Yeon-seo) kept having them. The outlet in Jewel Changi Airport kept playing the clip of them having the ice-cream over and over in the store.

The various types of cones available

This ice-cream parlor chain is famed for their outrageous ice cream flavors combinations and cones! I counted that there were 35 different available when I visited that day, including some really interesting ones like Cookie Dough, Mud Pie, Space Cake, Toasted S’mores, just to name a few. They come in either Junior ($6), Single ($7), Double ($11), or Triple ($15) scoop(s).

They have quite a number of cone types available too! The Waffle Cone (+$1), the Chocolate Cone (+$2.50) or the the Marshmallow Cone (+$3.50). I recommend the Marshmallow Cones because they are pretty and real delicious!

Unlike those Baskin Robbins and Häagen-Dazs outlets in Malaysia, this ice-cream parlor gave out a different vibe. Their funky ice-cream cones on display in the shop calls out to your inner-child, like when you were a kid looking into a candy shop. Also, they don’t display their ice-cream like how Baskin Robbins and Häagen-Dazs do, so I wasn’t sure whether you could try their ice-cream before purchasing… but turns out that you can try their flavors first before purchasing.

But these ice-creams do not come cheap. A single scoop of cookie dough ice-cream ($7.00) above on a fancy Froot Loops marshmallow cone ($3.50) costed SGD $10.50. I personally enjoyed both their ice-cream and cone! The marshmallow cone complimented the ice-cream nicely.

However, judging by the rather empty shop when I visited and their location at Jewel Changi Airport, they might actually find it hard to sustain? But then again, they might still remain their popularity due to their insta-worthy ice-cream cones. Hope it’s still there when I next visit Singapore!
