The fear of change.
You drag yourself to office every morning because you can’t stand the thought of going to office to do a job you hate.
You complain and groan so much about the job that you feel miserable, and it’s beginning to affect the people around you as well.
You get through each day of misery only go home to bed so that you can revisit it all again tomorrow.
If you hate your job so much, why are you still here?
The answer is simple, and it’s what most people are scared of – C H A N G E.
You hate your job, but you are scared to quit, especially if your job is a secure job.
The question you often ask yourself when thinking of embracing change – Which is more frightening: The thought of being miserable day after day at a job of you hate VS a new job with the element of unknown.
The Common Perception of Change:
- What if your new job is makes you even more miserable and unhappy?
- What if your new Company fires you?
- You current job might be a pain and boring, your boss might be a jerk, but at least you know the certain extent of your current job’s pains.

So, you convince yourself that the unknown is far worse than your current situation. It’s easier to stay within your comfort zone rather to step out and explore.
On the brighter side, if you were to travel the road less taken:
- Your new job might be awesome!
- Your new boss might care about your career progression.
- Your new Company might utilize your talents and recognize your talents and reward you for them.
- You might even be happy and excited to go to a job you love every day.
This might be the description of the unknown!
To be honest, I would also find it a little hard to embrace change. It might sound logically easy to embrace change, but the fear of change is real. It’s hard to walk into the unknown.
The key answers you should know before you are ready face your fear of change:
- Know what you want in your new job. Make a list of things in your current job that makes you feel miserable. Is it the duties you perform, the people you work with, or the industry you are in?
- Money. Is this a primary driver of why you want to change your job? Money isn’t everything! Taking a pay cut for something you love is worth it. A happier you is a better you, and the more likely you will be rewarded for that down the road.
Don’t allow fear of the unknown stop you from doing what you really want do in life.
Don’t be afraid to try and fail.
It’s okay to make wrong choices.
There is only one way to know what is in the unknown. Start today.
